Dhaniya Govi

So, here goes a new recipe. Hoping that you guys like it... The name is given by me. Let me know if any other better name comes to you.  I thought that since govi or cauliflower is both mine and my hubbo's favourite vegetable, so, posting a govi recipe first might bring me luck ... :)

Ingredients:

2 cups cauliflower florets
2 potatoes
Handful of coriander leaves and a little more
1 tbsp ginger garlic paste
2 chopped tomatoes
2-3 chopped green chillies
Mustard oil as required
Curry powder
Turmeric powder
Garam masala
Salt

Lighting the stove:

Wash cauliflower florets and boil them for 1-2 min in salted water.
Take them out when half cooked.

Fry them nicely with mustard oil till golden brown. Also fry thick slices of 2 potatoes till done.

Coarsely grind the coriander leaves and mix with ginger-garlic paste.

Heat mustard oil and add the paste and fry till raw smell goes.

Now, add 2 chopped tomatoes and cook till they are mushy.

Add chopped green chillies, govi and potatoes, mix well and then add curry powder, turmeric powder, little salt, garam masala powder.

Mix nicely.

Sprinkle handful of water and cover with lid and allow to cook for 2-3 minutes on low flame.

Tastes really awesome and different. Goes nice with almost anything. But it’s a dry curry and thus can be served with poori, paratha, roti and as a side dish with rice.

The bachelor biriyani

Well, the name may attract few bachelors who might not have to be disappointed. I didn’t see this recipe anywhere and one day, while in a hurry, I cooked this and luckily enough, it turned out to be a tasty dish. The taste was similar to that of Biriyani, just simpler.  You can cook this while you want to eat something spicy and don’t know the fancy recipes, or are running out of time or want to have an easy dish.  I normally keep cooking this during my exam days and this has turned out to be a life saver, after Maggi :) .

No. of servings: 3
Ingredients:
Rice – 3 cups
Chopped vegetables (Cauliflower, beans, capsicum, carrot, peas potato) – 2 cups
Tomato puree – 1.5 cup
Curd/yoghurt – 4 tablespoons
Oil/Butter (As required for frying vegetables)
Coriander Powder- 3 teaspoons
Chilly powder- 2 teaspoons
Turmeric powder- 1 teaspoon
Dry whole spices (Star anise, Mace, Bay leaves, Cardamom, Cloves, Cinnamon)
Onions- 3 large, sliced
Ginger garlic paste- 1 tablespoon
Water- 6 cups
Salt- As per your taste
Coriander and mint leaves for flavour

Method:
Take a pressure cooker and heat oil in it. Keep the ingredients ready beforehand. This is what I forget to do all the time which causes me to rush around. But, I am learning this. Better you too do that.

Put all the whole spices in the hot oil. Simmer for 5 seconds and add onions. Fry them for 3 minutes and add ginger garlic paste to it.
Fry till they turn beautifully golden brown. Now, add all the powdered spices (coriander, chilly, turmeric). Immediately after that, pour the tomato puree. Simmer for 2 minutes on medium flame and then add the curd.

Let the tomato to get cooked until oil oozes out from it. Now, add the vegetables, fry for some time and add rice.

Mix nicely so that all the spices get mixed with the rice. Fry it till the rice starts getting slightly coloured. Keep mixing vigorously all the while.
Finally pour down all the water and close the lid of the pressure cooker. If you like half-cooked rice, add 5 cups of water instead of 6 cups. Keep the gas at lowest flame and allow for 2 whistles. Now, turn off the gas and leave till the pressure cooker lets out all the gas.

Now, cut coriander leaves and mint leaves and spread it on the top of the rice. Close the lid and serve after 5 minutes with curd raita or any other side gravy.

Starting of a new food blog !!!

Hi !!!
Lately I had been cooking a lot new things at home…credit goes to many sites available online. I have cooked many out of them and I loved almost all. Recently, after I received the comment that I have been doing PhD in Cooking along with M.Sc Biotechnology……I felt inspired and secretly proud. J The results are being produced in form of a food blog… Being a foodie, I would like people to learn cooking for themselves to suit and pamper their taste buds….  So, I decided to post now and then about different dishes….from different parts…. Most of them may be already present in the vast internet world….I don’t want to copy them or want to outrun them… I just felt that all people don’t reach all blogs…This one may serve as an extra blog to which some people can connect to…

And most importantly, the key secret to any dish being tasty is LOVE… SShhhhh…..This is a secret, but is very important and yes, use lots of it..There is no measure for it in any dish…..

Hope some people try it out which may fulfill my reason of starting this blog….Comments are welcome…!!!
